Record-Breaking Lakers Dominate with 17-Goal Victory Over Clinton

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's soccer team shattered the program's single-game scoring record with a dominating 17-0 victory over Clinton Community College. The Lakers dominant offensive performance comes after a strong showing against the #10 Onondaga Lazers.

Freshman Robin Giesing (Essen, Germany/Gymnasium-Essen-Werden) led the charge, scoring four goals and adding an assist to complete a remarkable outing. Giesing opened the scoring at the 6' mark, with an assist from Yaco Gutierrez (San Lorenzo, Argentina/Colegio Sagrado Corazon), who played a pivotal role in the win with two goals and three assists. Moments later, classmate Ben Domann (Wuppertal, Germany/Gesamtschule Barmen) added to the tally with a goal at the 16' mark, assisted by Robin Giesing. Freshman Gary Cooper (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) found the back of the net just two minutes afer Domann's strike, with Domann returing the favor with the assist.

The first half also saw sophomore Joao Antonio Rocha (Sergipe, Brazil/Colegio Master) scored at the 22' mark off a pass from Carlos Aguiar (Sergipe, Brazil/Colegio Amadeus), who went on to record a hat trick and assist three goals. Ben Berger closed out the half with a goal at the 44' mark, assisted by Carl Pontin (Sunshine Coast, Australia/Mountain Creek State) giving the Lakers a commanding 6-0 lead heading into the break.

The Lakers would continue their dominance in the second half. Carlos Aguiar opened the scoring with his second goal at the 52' mark, assisted by Joao Antonio Rocha, before Gary Cooper netted his second just three minutes later. Robin Giesing completed his hat trick at the 65' mark, assisted by Allan Matheus (Sergipe, Brazil/Americano Batista), and followed it up with his fourth goal at the 70' mark, again from a Matheus assist. 

Freshman Ben Berger notched his second goal off an assist from Yaco Gutierrez, while sophomore Austin Wolfe (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and freshman Matt Sanderson (Harrogate, England/Harrogate Grammar School) netted their first goals of the season in the latter stages of the match. Freshman Bernardo Reffiel Del Castel contributed two assists, setting up Wolfe and Aguiar, while Joao Pedro Melo de Oliveria (Sergipe, Brazil/Centro de Excelencia Master) and Yaco Gutierrez provided additional assists. Gutierrez cappted of the Lakers' historic performance with an unassisted goal at the 89' mark.

Defensively, goalkeepers Ignacio Jimenez (Bogota, Colombia/San Bartolome la Merced) and Harry Eastwick (Christcurch, New Zealand/St. Thomas of Canterbury College) combined to secure the clean sheet.

The Lakers will have a quick turnaround after their record-breaking performance as they travel to North Country Community College tomorrow, Sunday, September 8th for a Region III matchup with the Saints.
