Men’s Soccer Celebrates Sophomore Day with Sixth Straight Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's soccer team celebrated Sophomore Day with a 4-2 victory over SUNY Broome on Saturday, improving their record to 10-3-3 and extending their win streak to six matches.

The Lakers struck quickly with two early goals. Austin Wolfe (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaiga) netted the opener at the 3' mark, assisted by Daniel Ojedayo (Ibadan, Nigeria/Opicc), and just five minutes later, Joao Pedro Melo de Oliveria (Sergipe, Brazil/Centro de Excelencia Master) found the back of the net off an assist from Joao Antonio Rocha, making it 2-0. Rocha's assist brought him one step closer to tying the all-time career assist record for FLCC. SUNY Broome responded late in the first half, narrowing the gap to 2-1.

In the second half, the Lakers continued to press, with Carlos Aguiar (Sergipe, Brazil/Colegio Amadeus) restoring a two-goal lead at the 76' mark after a clever pass from Carl Pontin (Sunshine Coast, Australia/Mountain Creek State). SUNY Broome made it 3-2 in the 81', but the Lakers sealed the victory with a late goal by Sergio Baron (Bogota, Colombia/Liceo Matovelle), scoring unassisted in the final minute of play.

Joao Antonio Rocha's two assists in the match tied him for the all-time career assist record at FLCC, tying Eric Marsh's record of 27 career assists set from 1996-97.

The Lakers will look to continue their impressive form as they head into the final stretch of the season.
