JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's soccer team extended their winning streak to eight matches with a 2-1 victory over Jamestown Community College on Saturday. With this win, the Lakers improved to 12-3-3 on the season, maintaining their strong form as they head toward postseason play.
Jamestown struck first early in the second half when Braidan Govan, assisted by Mohamadu Bah, found the back of the net at the 46' mark. However, the Lakers responded swiftly, with Robin Giesing (Essen, Germany/Gymnasium-Essen-Werden) netting the equalizer just 10 minutes later off an unassisted effort. The match remained tense, but Joao Antonio Rocha (Sergipe, Brazil/Colegio Master) continued his stellar form, scoring the game-winning goal in the final minutes at the 78' mark.
Defensively, the Lakers held their ground, with goalkeeper Harry Eastwick (Christchurch, New Zealand/St. Thomas of Canterbury College) making three crucial saves to keep the Lakers in front. The Lakers' offense proved efficient, with eight shots on goal and strong performances from key players.
The Lakers currently sit at 9-1-2 in Region III play and third in the playoff standings; setting the stage for a potential quarterfinal bye and semifinal home match. Finger Lakes will look to continue their winning ways in their next regular season matchup at Erie Community College on Wednesday, October 16th at 1 PM.
