Giovanni Ventura wins the 800 for men's track

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College men's outdoor track and field participated in its second meet of the 2021 spring season, with sophomore Giovanni Ventura (Geneva, NY/Geneva) winning the 800-meter race for the Lakers.

Ventura won with a time of two minutes, 8.94 seconds, and was also third in the 1,500 meters (4:32.94).

Among the other highlights for the Lakers: For the second straight meet, sophomore Adam Schreiber (Williamson, NY/Williamson) set a personal best in the 5K, earning a second-place finish with a time of 17:42.04 seconds. Schreiber trimmed another 75 seconds off of his previous personal best time, set during the 2021 season opening competition. He also placed fourth in the 1,500 (4:53.84).

Sophomore Brenden Sofo placed second in the 100 (11.64 seconds) and 200 meters (24.24), while classmate Nick Shenguelette (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) was third in the 400 (1:06.94) and sixth in the 100 (13.44).

In the field events, Luke Wagner placed third in the shot put (10.08 meters), the discus (26.42 meters), and the hammer throw (23.11 meters), and was fourth in the javelin (20.89 meters). Brendan Curtis added a sixth-place finish in the javelin (18.84 meters).
