Giovanni Ventura Wins 800 for second straight meet

UTICA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College men's outdoor track and field participated in their third meet of the 2021 spring season, and for the second straight week, sophomore Giovanni Ventura (Geneva, NY/Geneva) captured the 800-meter race.

Ventura ran in a time of two minutes, 8.87 seconds, his fastest time this year, to win the 800 by almost five seconds. Ventura also placed third in the 400 (55.70) and 1,500 meters (4:34.65) Friday afternoon at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Among the other highlights for the Lakers: Sophomore Adam Schreiber (Williamson, NY/Williamson) placed second in the 10,000 (37:42.36), classmate Brenden Sofo was second in the 100 (12.03), and classmate Nick Shenguelette (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) was fifth in the 200 (27.33).

In the field events, Shenguelette was fourth in the long jump (4.71 meters), while Luke Wagner placed third in the shot put (10.04 meters), the discus (26.03 meters), and the hammer throw (26.21 meters), and was fifth in the javelin (23.19 meters).
