Men's Track Successful in Region 3 Championship Tune-Up

UTICA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College men's outdoor track and field participated in their fourth meet of the 2021 spring season, with sophomore Giovanni Ventura (Geneva, NY/Geneva) winning the 800-meter race for the third straight week.

Ventura ran in a time of two minutes, 8.62 seconds, his fastest time this year, to win the 800 by almost 7.5 seconds. Ventura also placed second in the 1,500 meters (4:47.40) Saturday afternoon at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Among the other highlights for the Lakers: Sophomore Brenden Sofo placed second and set season-best times in the both the 100 (11.59) and 200 meters (23.82), classmate Nick Shenguelette (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) was fourth in the 200 (27.72) and fifth in the 100 (13.12), and sophomore John Peresan (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) was third in the 5,000 (19:27.67).

In the field events, Shenguelette was second in the long jump (4.82 meters) and triple jump (9.91 meters), while Luke Wagner placed third in the shot put (9.83 meters), the discus (25.90 meters), and the hammer throw (27.9 meters), and was fourth in the javelin (19.47 meters).

The Lakers close out the 2021 season on Sunday, April 25 back at Mohawk Valley Community College in the Region 3 championships.
