Giovanni Ventura Wins 800 Meters at Region 3 Championships
UTICA, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College men's outdoor track and field concluded its 2021 spring season at the Region 3 championships Sunday afternoon, with sophomore Giovanni Ventura (Geneva, NY/Geneva) winning the 800-meter race at Mohawk Valley Community College.
Ventura came in first in the region with a time of two minutes and 7.14 seconds — his fastest time of the year — to win the 800 for the fourth straight week.
FLCC finished third with a score of 61 points.
Sophomore Brenden Sofo placed second in the 100 meters, running in a season-best time of 11.59 seconds. Sofo also placed second in the 200 meters (24.17), while Ventura was third in the 1,500 (4:50.05) sophomore Adam Schreiber (Williamson, NY/Williamson) was third in the 5,000 (17:52.09) and fourth in the 1,500 (4:40.16), and classmate John Peresan (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) was fourth in the 5,000 (18:42.53).
FLCC's 3,200-meter relay team (Person, Schreiber, Brendan Curtis and Ventura) placed second (9:36.45), while the Lakers' 400-meter relay team (Person, Schreiber, Ventura and Sofo) placed third (58.67).
In the field events, Brendan Curtis placed sixth in the javelin (19.83 meters).
