Track and Field Competes at Geneseo Invite

GENESEO — The Finger Lakes Community College men's and women's track and field teams traveled to SUNY Geneseo to compete in Saturday's SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invite, and freshman Leah Lloyd (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) claimed first place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Lakers' performers.

The Laker men met 14 qualifying standards for the Region III Championships, and three qualifying standards for the NJCAA National Championships, while the women met nine qualifying standards for the Region III Championships and four qualifying standards for the NJCAA National Championships.

Lloyd finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11 minutes, 47.81 seconds, finishing 7.51 seconds faster than RIT's Danielle Wallace to win the event. Lloyd qualified for both the Regional and National Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meters. She set personal records in both events.

On the men's side, FLCC's 400-meter relay team of Tyqwan Coles, freshman Memphis Lohnes (Rushville, N.Y./Marcus Whitman), Hunter Zangerle and Cameron Rynders placed fifth in a time of 45.80 seconds, a Regional-qualifying time.

The Invite featured student-athletes from Geneseo, St. Bonaventure, the University at Buffalo, Canisius, Buffalo State, the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. John Fisher College, Nazareth College, the State College at Brockport, Ithaca College, and others.

Among the rest of the highlights for FLCC:

Men: John Zimmerman was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:44.45) and 30th in the 5,000 (17:03.40); Lohnes was seventh in the pole vault (3.6 meters); Rynders was eighth in the triple jump (12.62 meters), 21st in the long jump (5.95 meters) and 26th in the 100 meters (11.95 seconds); Zangele was ninth in the triple jump (12.55 meters) and 30th in the long jump (5.48 meters); Coles was 11th in the triple jump (12.10 meters), 23rd in the long jump (5.87 meters) and 33rd in the 100 (12.07); Daniel DiSalvo was 12th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.94) and 41st in the 400 (56.81); sophomore Giovanni Ventura (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) was 21st in the 5,000 (16:34.85) and 56th in the 1,500 (4:21.63); Dillian Hernandez was 28th in the shot put (10.38 meters); freshman Jake Williams was 46th in the 200 (26.30); and freshman Dominic Lafferty (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) was 51st in the 200 (27.21).

Zimmerman qualified for both Regionals and Nationals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, setting a new personal record, and also met the Regional qualifying standard in the 5,000 meters with another PR effort. Giovanni Ventura also met the Regional and National standards in the 5,000, setting a PR, and qualified for Regionals in the 1,500 with another PR performance. Lohnes qualified for both championships in the pole vault, Hernandez qualified for Regionals in both the shot put and the javelin (42.4 meters), Rynders, Zangerle, and Coles met Region III standards in the triple jump, while Rynders and Coles qualified for Regionals in the long jump, and DiSalvo qualified for Regionals in the 400 hurdles. 

Women:

Freshman Ericka Moody (Lyons, N.Y./Lyons) finished 17th in the 400 (1:04.48); Lloyd ran 19th in the 5,000 (19:35.17); freshman Morgan Collazo (Victor, N.Y./Victor) was 24th in the shot put (9.23 meters) and 26th in the discus (24.69 meters); freshman Elizabeth Rose (Angola, N.Y./Lake Shore) was 28th in the 400 (1:07.85); and sophomore Chrya Patterson (Bronx, N.Y./Theodore Roosevelt) placed 39th in the 100 (14.21). Moody and Rose qualified for both championships in the 400, and Rose qualified for the Regional meet with an effort of 1.35 meters in the high jump. Collazo qualified for Regionals in the shot put and discus (24.69 meters), while Patterson qualified for Regionals in the 100 and 200-meter dash (30.36 seconds).
