Track & Field Earns Two Athlete of the Week Selections

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – For a 4th-straight week, a Laker student-athlete has been named Athlete of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III.

Lakers Freshman Leah Lloyd (Macedon, N.Y./ Palmyra Macedon) earned her 2nd Athlete of the Week nomination for the women's track and field team. At the Red Dragon Open & Multi Invite, Lloyd claimed a 1st place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:04.76, a qualifying mark for the NJCAA Region III and NJCAA National championships.

Lloyd's 1500-meter mark currently sits as the second-fastest time in all of NJCAA Division III this outdoor track and field season.

On the men's track and field team, Dillian Hernandez (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) claimed NJCAA Region III Athlete of the Week honors after a stellar weekend at the Red Dragon Open & Multi Invite hosted by SUNY Cortland.

Hernandez would claim the top spot in the javelin throw, with a winning mark of 44.30 meters, a time that qualifies Hernandez for the NJCAA Region III championships, along with the NJCAA Division III championships.

Two meets into the season, the Lakers' track & field teams have put together an impressive showing, with several student-athletes earning the opportunity to compete in the postseason. The two teams will return to SUNY Cortland this upcoming Saturday, April 16th in the Upstate Alternative Invite at 11 AM.
