
Lakers Shine at SUNY Brockport
BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College track and field teams were on full display at SUNY Brockport on Saturday, February 4th. The indoor meet for the Lakers would mark their last meet of indoor before an April 1st showing at SUNY Geneseo in an outdoor meet.
Sophomore student-athlete Memphis Lohnes was in top form at SUNY Brockport, soaring to new heights in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.95 meters. This impressive feat would earn him a spot at the outdoor NJCAA Division III national championships. Memphis's quick footwork was on full display as well when he blazed through the 400m in 55.56 seconds.
Jacob DiGiovanni was another standout performer, breaking his personal best in the 5k with a time of 18:54.06. Jason Hammond also had a great day, setting a PR in the 200m with a time of 26.66.
Jaylen Wims was a triple threat, showcasing his versatility in three different events. He threw a PR in the 35lb weight throw with a 11.58m toss, and also impressed in the shot put, throwing 12.14m. He rounded out his day with a strong showing in the 60m dash, finishing in 8.83 seconds. With a strong performance in the shot put at the teams last meet, Wims also qualified for the outdoor NJCAA nationals, adding to his already impressive resume.
Morgan Cheney was a force on the track, improving in both the mile and shot put. Her time of 6:52.6 in the mile and a toss of 6.82m in the shot put were both impressive efforts. She also gave a solid performance in the 800m, finishing in 3:26.22. Leah Lloyd rounded out the day with a strong showing in the 3000m, setting a PR with a time of 11:14.00. In the Lakers previous meet, Lloyd would also earn a qualifying mark in the 800m for the NJCAA Division III national championships.
It was a great day for the Finger Lakes Community College track and field team, with many impressive performances. The Lakers will hit the track again in April when the team travels to SUNY Geneseo for their first outdoor meet of the new year.
