Men's Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to SUNY Poly

UTICA, N.Y. - In a hard-fought match at the Wildcat Field House, the Lakers men's volleyball team would fall 3-1 to the SUNY Poly Wildcats on their home court. The loss drops the Lakers to a 4-3 record on the season.

The Lakers started the match with Jonah Grbic (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) leading the attack, racking up an impressive 21 kills on 44 attempts. Bryce Ceravolo (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) added 16 assists, while Nick Ferris (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) had 4 kills and a block in the NJCAA/NCAA matchup.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading points. However, the Wildcats were able to pull ahead and secure the set with a score of 25-22. The second set saw the Lakers struggle with their attack, as they recorded just 13 kills on 31 attempts. The Wildcats took advantage of the team's struggles, taking the second set, 25-21.

The Lakers came out firing in the third set, recording 11 kills and securing the set with a score of 25-23. Despite the Lakers narrowing the gap two sets to one, the Wildcats showed their resilience, bouncing back in the fourth set with a score of 25-20 to secure the match victory.

Other contributors for the Lakers included Ian Meeks (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) who had 7 kills and 3 blocks, Daniel Seymour (Bellmore, N.Y./ John F. Kennedy) with 5 kills, 5 digs, and 1 block assist, and Samuel Guardado (San Salvador, El Salvador/ Josue Christian) who shined in the matchup with 3 kills, 12 digs, and 2 service aces.

Despite the loss, the Lakers still remain atop the NJCAA men's volleyball rankings in wins. The team will look to use this matchup as a learning experience for their next scheduled match at home. The Lakers will return home for a battle with Geneva College on the Putt Moore Court on Friday, February 24th at 7 PM.
