Lakers Soar to Victory with Seymour's Career Performance

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Following a 3-0 sweep over SUNY Brockport, the Finger Lakes Community College men's volleyball team hit the road for Monroe College to participate in the Monroe College Men's Volleyball Invitational.

In their first matchup of the day, the Lakers faced off against the Monroe College Express of the Bronx, N.Y., who the Lakers would sweep, 3-0 in dominating fashion. Sophomore Nick Ferris (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) led the charge with a .857 hitting percentage, amassing 6 kills, good for 7 points. Freshman Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) put together his best performance of the season, boasting a .750 hitting percentage with 6 kills and 8 points in the match.

Sophomore Daniel Seymour (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) continued to be a reliable force on the attack, recording 6 kills on a .625 hitting percentage, adding 6 points to the Lakers' tally. Classmate AJ DeBalso (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) showed his versatility on the hardwood, adding 2 kills, 3 service aces, and 6 digs to cap off an all-around game.

Freshman Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) had a notable performance with 4 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Nickson would add 2 service aces to his tally to finish with 6 points. Sophomore Bryce Ceravolo (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) played an instrumental role in orchestrating the Lakers' efficient offense, amassing 20 assists in the match.

Following a short break, the Lakers would face their final test of the day against the #3 ranked team in the country last season, the College of DuPage Chapparals. However, despite the anticipation leading up to the match, the Lakers would put together a strong 3-0 finish over the Chapparals to move to 3-0 this season.

The team's victory was highlighted by a career-high performance from sophomore Daniel Seymour who led the team with an impressive 16 kills on a .583 hitting percentage, contributing 17 points to the team's tally. Classmates Ian Meeks (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Nick Ferris played pivotal roles in the win. Meeks contributed 10 kills and added 11 points, while Ferris posted 9 kills on a .467 hitting percentage. Ferris would provide a formidable presence at the net, finishing with 2 blocks on the night.

Freshman Bryce Nickson added to the Laker's dynamic offensive attack with 6 kills. Defensively, the Lakers were led by libero AJ DeBalso who finished with 11 digs, while high school teammate Bryce Ceravolo distributed 37 assists throughout the 3-set match to set up the Lakers attack.

The Lakers' first day of the Monroe College Invitational was highlighted by efficient play on both sides of the ball. The team will gear up for a pair of matchups tomorrow, first versus the Nassau Community College Lions at 1 PM, followed by a 5 PM matchup against the Union County Community College Owls.
