Men's Volleyball Sweeps at Nassau

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's volleyball team ended the weekend with a pair of sweeps and an 8-1 record with wins over Nassau and Atlantic Cape Community College(s). The Lakers have only lost 6 sets in their last 9 matches, with their only loss coming at the hands of Monroe College, 3-2.

The Lakers earned a convincing 3-0 win over Nassau Community College on Sunday as Nick Ferris (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) led the offensive charge with an impressive 11 kills on a .611 hitting percentage, contributing a total of 12 points. Ferris' efficiency was key to the Lakers' victory. Classmate Daniel Seymour (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) continued to pile on the kills, adding 9 in the match. Seymour controlled the net with 1 solo block and 1 block assist.

Freshman Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) put together another strong outing, adding 5 kills for 5 points in the match. Teammate Ian Meeks (Victor, N.Y./Victor) contributed both offensively and from the service line, with 4 kills and a team-high 4 service aces, accumulating 8 points. Sophomore Bryce Ceravolo (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) continued to excel as the team's primary setter, orchestrating the offense with 20 assists. 

The final win of the day for the Lakers came against Atlantic Cape Community College in a 3-1 finale. Sophomore Nick Ferris stood out with 8 kills on a .467 hitting percentage for 8.5 points. Freshman Aaron Hennessy also added to the team's dynamic attack, tallying 7 kills and leading the team with 12 digs.

Classmates Bryce Ceravolo and Ian Meeks were instrumental in directing the offense with 12 assists apiece. Meeks also would go on to lead the team with 4 service aces. Sophomore Daniel Seymour added 6 kills to his total while accumulating a team-high 3 solo blocks, amassing 10.5 points. Teammates Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and Nehemiah Williams (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) added depth to the Lakers' performance and played a crucial role in the victory, with Nickson recording a .750 hitting percentage on 3 kills and adding 1 solo block and 2 block assists. Williams would make his presence felt at the service line with 3 aces for 4 points in the match. 

With the win, the Lakers will look ahead to a road trip to SUNY Polytechnic on Tuesday, February 6th at 7 PM before opening up at home against North Vermont University-Johnson on Saturday, February 10th at 2 PM. The team's doubleheader will mark the first of a three-match homestand before the team heads to the College of DuPage on Saturday, February 17th for the DuPage Invitational.
