Lakers Fall to Division III Opponent on the Road

UTICA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's volleyball team dropped their first game against a non-NJCAA opponent Tuesday night in a 3-1 loss to SUNY Polytechnic. The Wildcats, competing in NCAA Division III, lost their first four matches of the season before winning their fourth game in five against the Lakers.

On the attack, Nick Ferris (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) led the Lakers with 10 kills and 10.5 points on the day. Classmate Ian Meeks (Victor, N.Y./Victor) made significant contributions in the match, with 7 kills and a team-high 3 service aces to go along with a strong defensive day, finishing with a team-high 14 digs. Teammates Daniel Seymour (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added depth to the Lakers offense, with Seymour securing 7 kills and Hennessy adding 6. 

Sophomore Bryce Ceravolo (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) led the team with 34 assists and a service ace in the game, while classmate Samuel Guardado (San Salvador, El Salvador/Josue Christian) provided an all-around performance with 5 kills and 3 service aces. Freshman Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) shined in his time on the court, providing a much-needed boost to the Lakers offense and defense, adding 2 kills, 2 assists, and 6 digs.

The Lakers return to the FLCC Putt Moore Court for their next match this Saturday, February 10th for their home opener against SUNY Cortland Club. The Lakers doubleheader is slated for game times at 2 PM and 4 PM.
