Men's Volleyball Sweeps Home Opener Over Cortland

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's volleyball team welcomed SUNY Cortland Club to the Putt Moore Court for their home opener Saturday afternoon. The Lakers would sweep their doubleheader, 6 set to none to improve to 10-2 this season.

In game one, The Lakers put together a well-rounded team effort. Sophomore Nick Ferris (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) led the team with a standout performance, deliver 11 kills on 19 attempts with a hitting efficiency of .474, along with 1 service ace and 2 block assists. Freshman Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) followed closely, efficently adding 6 points to his tally with a .625 hitting percentage. Teammate Bryce Ceravolo (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) managed the Lakers offense with 17 assists while adding 4 aces and 2 block assists to his total.

The second game of the doubleheader saw the Lakers continue their dominance. Sophomore Daniel Seymour (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) played a big role in the win as the team's standout performer. Seymour secured 11 kills with a .529 hitting percentage, while adding a block defensively to round out a 13 point performance. Freshman Evan Lukasiewicz (Webster, N.Y./Webster) had a strong game in his first game in a Lakers' jersey, adding 10 points with a .273 hitting percentage; Lukasiewicz would finish the day with 15 total kills. Teammate Nick Ferris remained consistent, adding 9 kills with a .400 hitting efficiency.

Sophomore Bryce Ceravolo continued to setup the offense, adding 30 assists to his total in game two, while also adding 3 service aces. Classmate AJ DeBalso (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) had a strong game serving, finishing with 4 service aces. An all around performance from Nick FerrisBryce CeravoloDaniel Seymour, and Evan Lukasiewicz helped the Lakers earn their ninth and tenth wins of the year. 

Up next for the team is a 6 PM matchup at home next Tuesday, February 13th versus the SUNY Brockport Club program. The team will then hit the road for Glen Ellyn, Il. for the College of DuPage Invitational from February 14th to the 18th.
