POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College men's volleyball team opened their 2025 campaign with a competitive showing, securing a 3-2 victory over Clarkson University before falling 3-1 to SUNY Potsdam.
Against Clarkson, the Lakers put together a balanced offensive effort led by Evan Lukasiewicz (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder), who tallied 17 kills and 14 digs. Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) was a key contributor with 11 kills while hitting .450, and Jack Donovan (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) added 10 kills and 12 digs. Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) was efficient with eight kills and a .438 hitting percentage while also chipping in two digs. Cole Thomas (Fayettville, N.Y./Chittenango) orchestrated the offense with 46 assists and delivered three service aces, while Dominick Alvarado (York, PA./Northeastern) played a role at the net with five kills and three block assists.
In the second match, the Lakers kept things competitive against Potsdam but were unable to overcome their attack, dropping the match in four sets. Evan Lukasiewicz once again paced the attack with 14 kills, while Bryce Nickson added eight kills, five service aces, and 14 digs. Aaron Hennessy contributed eight kills, and Jack Donovan posted 5 kills and 5 digs. Cole Thomas recorded 36 assists and 3 aces, while Dominick Alvarado and Grant Walker provided a defensive presence at the net.
The Lakers returns to action tomorrow, February 9, at 11 AM against Middlesex College, followed by a scrimmage with the University of Rochester Club team at 3 PM for the team's home opener.
