GLEN ELLYN, IL. – The Finger Lakes Community College men's volleyball team closed out the College of DuPage Invitational with a pair of tough losses on Sunday, falling in a hard-fought 3-2 match against Monroe University before being swept 3-0 by the host Chaparrals.
Against Monroe, the Lakers had several standout performances in a match that went the distance. Evan Lukasiewicz (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) led the attack with 21 kills and 14 digs, while Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) added 15 kills, 12 digs, and an ace. Dominick Alvarado (York, PA./Northeastern) chipped in with 8 kills and 4 block assists, and Cole Thomas (Fayettville, N.Y./Chittenango) facilitated the offense with 45 assists and 3 block assists. The Lakers kept the match competitive but couldn't close it out in the decisive fifth set against one of their most common opponents over the past three season.
In their final match of the invitational, the Lakers struggled to find their rhythm against a strong College of DuPage team that remains undefeated at 14-0 this season. Evan Lukasiewicz once again led the team with 9 kills, while Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) posted 11 kills and 9 digs. Dominick Alvarado contributed 6 kills, and Cole Thomas recorded 29 assists, a block solo, and an ace. Finger Lakes was unable to generate enough momentum to overcome the host team, dropping the match in three sets.
The Lakers will look to snap their three-match losing streak on Tuesday, February 18th, when they travel to Wisconsin-Stevens Point for an 8 PM matchup.
