UTICA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College men's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep over NVU Johnson before battling in a 3-1 loss to SUNY Poly Sunday evening.
Against NVU Johnson, Evan Lukasiewicz (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) led the charge with 17 kills while hitting .560, adding 11 digs and an ace. Jack Donovan (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) provided a strong offensive presence with nine kills, while Dominick Alvarado (York, PA./Northeastern) and Cole Thomas (Fayettville, N.Y./Chittenango) contributed 6 and 5 kills, respectively. Thomas also dished out 26 assists, and Grant Walker (Boston, N.Y./Eden) anchored the defense with a team-high 9 digs. The Lakers controlled the match from start to finish, holding NVU Johnson to limited offensive success.
In the second match, FLCC fought hard against a tough SUNY Poly squad but ultimately fell in four sets. Lukasiewicz once again led the attack with 19 kills, while Jack Donovan and Aaron Hennessy (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) added 9 and 7 kills, respectively. Thomas tallied 41 assists, and Bryce Nickson (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) anchored the back row with 20 digs. Alvarado contributed 6 kills and 6 total blocks to round out the match.
The Lakers turn their attention to a road trip to Houghton, N.Y. to face the Houghton University Highlanders on Wednesday, March 12th at 7 PM. Their matchup will be the final of the regular season for the Lakers who will next compete on April 4th, 5th, and 6th at the NJCAA Men's Volleyball National Invitational at Finger Lakes Community College.
