Several Lakers PR in National Championship

Milledgeville, G.A. – The Finger Lakes Community College Men's Cross Country team travelled to Milledgeville, Georgia Saturday November 13th to participate in the National Junior College Athletic Association, DIII, National Championship which was hosted at Georgia Military College.

Sophomore Giovanni Ventura (Geneva, N.Y./ Geneva) earned the top finish for the Lakers at the event, finishing in 37th place and completing the course in 28 minutes and 37.7 seconds. Freshman John Zimmerman (Middlesex, N.Y./ Marcus Whitman) followed shortly behind Ventura, finishing in 48thand completing the course in 29 minutes and 11 seconds. 

The Lakers also had finishes from Kyle Green who placed 90th and completed the course in 31 minutes and 11.1 seconds, Jacob DiGiovanni (Waterloo, N.Y./ Waterloo) with a time of 32 minutes and 44 seconds and Jake Williams (Lima, N.Y./ Honeoye Falls-Lima) with a time of 33 minutes and 18.4 seconds. 

Head Coach Jayden Donahue had high praise for his team, "I am really happy with how the team rounded out or season down in Georgia. The men were able to grab some nice PRs. They really worked together as a team and overall had a good race".

The Lakers gave it their all in the last race of the 2021 season, "Gio Ventura's 28:37 finish was a lifetime PR by 6 seconds and JT Zimmer also had a massive 2-minute PR with his 29:11 finish" Head Coach Jayden Donahue explained. 

The Men's Cross Country team completed a successful season and concluded a successful run at the National Championship. The Lakers earned a 16th place finish as a team out of 18. The Lakers squad returns several Freshman for next year's squad, with high hopes to make another run.
