Ogrodowski Walkoff Lifts Lakers to Sweep

CANANDAIGAUA -- Daniele Ogrodowski's home run in the 7th inning lifted Finger Lakes to an 11-9 win in Game 2. The Lakers shutout Jefferson Community College in Game 1 by the score of 8-0. With the win, Finger Lakes improved their record to 15-11. The Lakers qualified for the Region III Tournament for the first time in school history and earned the fifth seed.

Rachel Mertens kept the Cannoneer bats at bay in Game 1. She allowed just four hits in six innings and struck out five in earning the win. The Lakers scored three runs in the second inning and then pushed across five in the sixth inning for the win. Courtney Edger led Finger Lakes with two hits in the game. Jennifer Marshall hit her third home run of the season. Six different Lakers drove in a run in the game. 

Jefferson jumped out to an early lead on Finger Lakes and led 4-0 going into the bottom of the third. The Lakers cut the lead in half in the third with two runs and scored four runs in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead. Finger Lakes would extend the lead to 9-5 going into the seventh inning. Jefferson scored four runs in the frame to tie the game at 9-9. With a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, Daniele Ogrodowski sent a ball flying over the fence for the 2-run walkoff home run and an 11-9 Finger Lakes victory.

Ogrodowski's home run in the seventh was her second of the game. They were the first home runs of her collegiate career. Jessica Bernhard also hit her first collegiate home run in the game. Jennifer Marshall and Kelly Kier each had a pair of hits for Finger Lakes. Kier also drove in three runs.

The Lakers will enter the postseason for the first time in school history this Tuesday. They will take on the four seed Monroe Community College. The Tribunes will host the Lakers. A time for the matchup is still to be announced.
