CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College softball team went 1-3 over the weekend, with back-to-back losses at the hands of Erie on Saturday and a low-scoring split with Mohawk Valley on Sunday.
The Lakers fell 7-3 in the first game and 6-3 in the second on Saturday versus the Kats. Emma Johnson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) finished the day with a team-high three RBIs, while Cameron Crawford (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne) and Jenna Tyczynski (Westmoreland, N.Y./Westmoreland) also combined for three of their own. Brazen Beckwith and Ella Upchurch (Palmyra-, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) each brought in runs, and Beckwith connected on both a double and a triple in game two. Madison Anderson (Ashville, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake) took the mound for a total of twelve innings over the two games and finished with six strikeouts. Emma Johnson and Lauren Pilon (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) both swiped a base in game two.
The Lakers put forth a strong all-around effort to come away with a 4-1 victory over the Hawks in the first leg on Sunday. The game broke open in the bottom of the sixth when Cameron Crawford struck an RBI single to bring home Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island), followed by another from Emma Johnson to bring home Jenna Keller (Gainesville, N.Y./Letchworth) just moments later. The team's final run of the contest came soon after when a defensive error was made by the Hawks that allowed Crawford to score. Madison Anderson put together an impressive performance in the victory with four strikeouts, no walks and only one run allowed over seven innings of play.
Game two was close all throughout, but the Hawks capitalized on opportunities during the late stages and ultimately came away with the 4-3 victory. Emma Johnson and Ella Upchurch both had an RBI, while Anna Kurtzhalts, Cameron Crawford and Jenna Keller drove in one run apiece. Both Kurtzhalts and Crawford connected on a double, while Keller and Jenna Tyczynski each snagged a bag. Brazen Beckwith was also caught stealing, which assisted Kutzhalts in reaching home base in the top of the first. Madison Anderson dealt out 71 strikes over six innings.
The Lakers currently sit at 4-8 heading into the latter half of the season, and the last two games of their current homestand are slated for Tuesday, April 15th at 3 & 5 PM versus the Herkimer College Generals.
