Lakers Rally on Sophomore Day to Cap Regular Season with Walk-Off Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College softball team closed out the regular season on Sophomore Day with a dramatic 11-10 comeback win over SUNY Jefferson in game one, followed by a 12-0 loss in game two.

Game one saw the Lakers erase multiple deficits, including a 7-3 hole and a 10-8 gap heading into the bottom of the seventh. Madison Anderson (Ashville, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake) sparked the offense with a 3-run single in the third and also went the distance in the circle, tossing all 7 innings for her 8th win of the season. Cameron Crawford (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne) finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, including the game-tying single in the fifth. Lauren Pilon (Kendall, N.Y./Kendall) added a game-tying sacrifice fly in the seventh, and Jenna Tyczynski (Westmoreland, N.Y./Westmoreland) delivered the walk-off RBI single to score Emma Johnson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) from third.

Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) reached base 5 times, scored twice, and had an RBI triple. Kurtzhalts would make history, once again, breaking the single season walks record with her 18th of the season, while Ella Upchurch (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) tripled and scored twice. The Lakers drew 12 walks and totaled 12 hits in the win.

Game two was all SUNY Jefferson, as they jumped ahead early and never looked back. The Cannoneers scored 12 runs on 13 hits, holding the Lakers to just 2 hits in the 5-inning loss. Anderson took the loss in the circle, while Crawford threw the final two innings in relief.

The Lakers will turn their attention to postseason play as they await their fate in the NJCAA Region III Tournament, currently sitting as the 8th seed.
