Season Preview: Women's Basketball

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - As the new basketball season approaches, the Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team is gearing up for what promises to be a transformative year. With a mix of promising Freshmen and seasoned sophomores, Head Coach Michael Broderick is optimistic about the team's prospects.

This season, the squad welcomes a talented group of freshmen, including Lexi Swarthout (Wayne, N.Y./Hammondsport), Barbara Arsenault (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena), Jade Roussell (Dundee, N.Y./Dundee), Ciana Galvin (Newark, N.Y./Newark), Camora Mack (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena), Alissa Mazzye (Onieda, N.Y./Stockbridge Valley), and Kevanesha Harrison (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva)

The presence of returning sophomores Georgia Luft (Elba, N.Y./Elba), Berit Sack (Buffalo, N.Y./The Park School), Quynn Tallman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and Izzy Robson (Newark, N.Y./Newark) adds depth and experience to this year's 2023-24' squad.

"We aim to be competitive in every game", asserted Head Coach Michael Broderick. "Improving upon our last season's performance, both in terms of our record and statistical achievements is a clear objective".

As the anticipation for the upcoming season builds, Head Coach Michael Broderick has high expectations for his squad. Central to the team's strategy this season is chemistry, an element Coach Broderick insists is the team's biggest strength this preseason, "The chemistry among the players is exceptional", he acknowledged, highlighting their unity thus far.

Coach Broderick will rely on his sophomores to lead the way for his freshman, "Our sophomores understand the rigors of Region III competition", Broderick asserted, emphasizing the role they will play and level of commitment that is expected.

Broderick's strategy heading into the 2023-24' season is all centric to the foundational principles of basketball, emphasizing a back-to-basics approach to this season, "Defend, rebound, and take care of the ball. We need to have player movement, ball movement, and players that can put the ball in the basket" said the 3rd-year Head Coach at FLCC.

The Lakers will open their season against the Monroe Community College Tribunes Wednesday, November 1st at 5 PM on FLCC's Putt Moore Court.
