Women's Basketball Goes Down to the Wire in Home Opener

By Logan Weingartner

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.In their home opener, the Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team suffered a loss to the Red Barons of Corning Community College, 52-41.

Both Jazzmyn Lewis (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and Dalayla Alexander (Ellicottville, N.Y./Ellicottville) played the full 40 minutes, with each pouring in 15 points apiece and combining for 21 total rebounds. They both also played a key role on the defensive side of the ball, with 7 and 3 steals respectively. Kierra Shaugnessy (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) also played the full 40, bringing in 7 points along with 7 rebounds.

Despite valiant comeback efforts in the 2nd half and getting as close to within 5 points of the Red Barons at one point, the Lakers would ultimately fall short.

The Lakers will look to flip the script and add a win to the column in their next matchup, which will be an away game versus the Spartans of Cayuga Community College on Wednesday, November 13th at 5 PM.
