Lakers Earn First Win of the Season Over Cayuga

AUBURN, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team claimed their first victory of the season in a thrilling 51-47 win over Cayuga, improving to 1-2. A strong second-half defensive effort and clutch performances down the stretch helped the Lakers secure the win.

Dalayla Alexander (Ellicottville, N.Y./Ellicottville) led all scorers with 17 points, sinking five three-pointers to set the pace for the Lakers. Jazzmyn Lewis added 16 points and an impressive seven steals, with five of those coming in the second half, which fueled the Lakers' defensive pressure.

Ella Robinson (Hallstead, PA./Blue Ridge) came alive in the fourth quarter, scoring all nine of her points from six layups off of Jazzmyn Lewis' steals and a clutch three-pointer. Kierra Shaughnessy (Cananstota, N.Y./Canastota) contributed seven points and grabbed four rebounds, including a key free throw in the final seconds to seal the lead. Eliana Mason (Frederick, MD./New Life Christian) also stepped up, hitting two crucial free throws with 45 seconds left, pushing the score to 50-47 before Kierra's final free throw secured the 51-47 victory.

The Lakers' defensive intensity in the second half proved critical, as they stifled Cayuga's offense and held their lead in the final moments.
