Lakers Snap Mohawk Valley’s Streak with Dominant Team Effort
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team ended Mohawk Valley's four-game win streak in impressive fashion, securing a 78-62 victory. Mohawk entered the game 4-2 and unbeaten in Region III play, but the Lakers' balanced attack and strong team defense proved too much.
The Lakers showcased a dynamic team performance with multiple players in double figures and two recording double-doubles. Ella Robinson (Hallstead, PA./Blue Ridge) led the way with 19 points, adding 6 rebounds and hitting 6 free throws to help seal the win. Dalayla Alexander (Elicottville, N.Y./Elicottville) contributed 18 points, including two three-pointers, while Kierra Shaughnessy (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) added 17 points and a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Jazzmyn Lewis (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) also shined, recording a convincing double-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists, and 6 steals, making an impact on both ends of the floor. Off the bench, Vivien Libby (South Dayton, N.Y./Pine Valley) provided a spark with 8 points and 10 rebounds in limited minutes.
The Lakers' defense was crucial in the win, holding Mohawk Valley to 39.1% shooting while forcing turnovers and dominating the boards with 54 total rebounds. The balanced offensive attack and relentless effort snapped Mohawk's win streak and handed them their first Region III loss.
The Lakers will aim to build on this momentum as they continue Region III play next Tuesday, November 26th against Division II SUNY Niagara at 5 PM.
