
Lakers Dominate the Boards in Conference Win Over Genesee, 50-35
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team earned an impressive 50-35 victory over Genesee Community College, improving to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play Saturday afternoon. The Lakers' relentless rebounding and defensive pressure proved the difference, securing their second conference win.
Kierra Shaughnessy (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) led the Lakers with 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, pivotal in the team's offensive and defensive efforts. Dalayla Alexander (Ellicottville, N.Y./Ellicottville) added 10 points and 4 assists, while Ella Robinson (Hallstead, PA./Blue Ridge) contributed 9 points and 9 rebounds.
The standout performance came from Jazzmyn Lewis (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo), who showcased her all-around abilities with 7 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 assists, nearly achieving a triple-double. Her dominance on the boards and playmaking ability were instrumental in the Lakers controlling the tempo. Her 4 steals in the game brings her season total to 68, just 4 steals short of the single-season record of 71 with 15 games to go. Off the bench, Eliana Mason (Frederick, MD./New Life Christian) provided a spark with 8 points in just 22 minutes of action.
The Lakers controlled the glass with 49 total rebounds, including 16 offensive boards, which helped them overcome shooting struggles early on. Their defensive intensity held Genesee to just 35 points, allowing the Lakers to pull away in the second half.
The Lakers return home on Wednesday, January 15th, to host SUNY Broome at 5 PM as they look to build on their momentum in conference play.
