Lakers’ Comeback Effort Falls Just Short at Fulton-Montgomery, 67-65
JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team nearly erased a 14-point halftime deficit, but their late rally fell just short in a 67-65 loss to Fulton-Montgomery on the road Sunday afternoon.
The Lakers faced an uphill battle after a strong first half from the Raiders, who led 41-27 at the break. However, Finger Lakes responded in the second half, outscoring Fulton-Montgomery 38-26.
Dalayla Alexander (Ellicottville, N.Y./Ellicottville) led the charge with a game-high 26 points, hitting 6 three-pointers while adding 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Jazzmyn Lewis (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) put together another all-around performance, posting 20 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 steals, helping fuel the second-half surge.
Kierra Shaughnessy (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) provided 9 points and 6 rebounds, while Ella Robinson (Hallstead, PA./Blue Ridge) added 8 points, knocking down a pair of threes. Jade Roussell (Dundee, N.Y./Dundee) contributed on both ends with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
The Lakers shot 43% from the field and 33% from beyond the arc, but the first-half deficit proved too much to overcome despite a 22-point third quarter that put them back in contention.
The Lakers (7-10, 4-4 conference) will look to bounce back as they return home for their next matchup tomorrow, February 4th at 5 PM against Cayuga Community College.
