FLCC Logging Sports Team to Host Fire Build Competition at Fire & Ice Festival

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College Logging Sports Team will take part in the Town of Canandaigua's Fire & Ice Festival this year by hosting a Doubles Fire Build - Water Boil Competition on Saturday, February 22, from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM in downtown Canandaigua. This event will give experienced competitors a chance to showcase their fire-building skills in a friendly but competitive setting.

"This exemplifies our support for our host community, and we are happy to be a part of this community event," said FLCC Logging Sports Head Coach Ryan Staychock. "This is one way to share our sport with the public, grow our sport, bring recognition to our team, recruit, engage alumni, and have fun."

The Doubles Fire Build-Water Boil Competition is an officially judged event, requiring all participants to have competed in this style of event before. Competitors must register with a partner, as teamwork is essential to the challenge. Each team will receive wood, cans, soapy water, and matches, but competitors must bring their own tools for splitting and preparing the firewood. All participants should dress appropriately for the weather, as this will be a rain-or-shine event.

One ticket covers registration for both partners. Upon registration, teams will receive a QR code for check-in at the event. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

FLCC's Logging Sports Team is excited to be part of the Fire & Ice Festival, providing an opportunity to share the sport and its rich history not only in Canandaigua and at FLCC but also in the region.
