Women's Soccer Falls at Home in Regional Matchup

By Logan Weingartner

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's soccer team suffered their third straight loss on Saturday evening, falling to the Vikings of Hudson Valley Community College. The midseason woes for the Lakers continue, as they went scoreless through 90 minutes of play.

The first goal of the match came from Brooke Naylor of the Timberwolves at the 17' mark. Naylor then followed that up with another one just two minutes later, finding the back of the net to increase their lead by two. Despite some defensive stops, the Lakers would struggle to keep up pace with the opposition, as the HVCC advantage grew to three goals when Katie Gross slipped one through at the 37' mark.

The Vikings would come out of halftime with high motors, as they poured two more on – both by Lauren Foglia – to increase their advantage to five goals. The lone chance at a goal for the Lakers came from Lily Morse (Canandaigua, N.Y./Marcus Whitman). However, she failed to convert, as the Viking defense stood tall. Keeper Hannah Cowan (Austin, T.X./Dripping Springs) played the full 90' in net, and delivered a solid performance, saving over 60% of the shots that came her way.

The Lakers will look to redeem themselves in their next matchup when they travel to Pittsford to take on St. John Fisher (JV) on Tuesday, October 1st at 7 PM.
