Lakers fall in hard-fought match against No. 9 Jefferson Community College

WATERTOWN, NY — The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team fell just short in their match against Jefferson Community College on Tuesday night against a strong JCC squad ranked 9th in the national rankings. The Lakers fought hard in a back-and-forth contest, coming up short 3-2 on the match. 

The Lakers split the first two sets with Jefferson CC, winning the first set 25-16 and falling in the second set 25-18. The Lakers took the third set by a score of 27-25 to give them the 2-1 lead in sets, but ultimately, Jefferson CC went on to win the last two sets by scores of 25-15 and 15-9.  

Sophomore Brandy Morrison (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) totaled 16 kills with 17 digs and 2 aces to pace the Lakers. Freshman Emma Sipos (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) played a vital role, totaling 32 digs to go with 9 kills, 1 ace, 2 block assists for FLCC.

Freshman Oona O'Brien (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) recorded 8 kills with 18 digs and 1 block assist while teammate Alyssa Johnson (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) helped set up the Lakers with 22 assists and 11 digs on the night. Freshman libero Emer O'Brien (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) contributed 23 digs on the night for the Lakers.

FLCC looks to rebound when it hosts Cayuga Community College on Sept. 9th for the home opener. The Lakers then travel to Niagara County Community College on Sept. 11th.
