Volleyball Sweeps Mohawk Valley CC

UTICA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Volleyball team improved to 6-1 after completing a sweep against Mohawk Valley Community College Saturday afternoon. Lakers volleyball improves their winning streak to four as they continue their dominate run this season.

The Lakers have completed sweeps in 5 of their 6 victories on the season, as the Lakers continue their dominate run. The Lakers only loss on the season came against Jefferson Community College, in a decisive 3-2 loss. Lakers Volleyball currently sits at number 4 in the recent National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III coaches' poll and 8th in the NJCAA national poll.

On Saturday, the Lakers were led by Sophomore Brandy Morrison (Macedon, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon) who accumulated 12 kills, 5 digs and 1 aces. Freshman Alyssa Johnson (Palmyra, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon) had a monster day for the Lakers helping set her teammates up with 20 assists, 2 kills, 2 digs and 4 aces on the day. Freshman Emma Sipos (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) played a pivotal role in the Lakers win, adding 4 kills, 5 digs and 3 aces to the teams total.

Libero Emer O'Brien (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) contributed 8 digs and 1 assist while teammate Oona O'Brien (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) added 5 kills, 3 digs and 2 assists on the day. Other contributors for the Lakers on the day were Meghan Johnson (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) with 1 kills, 5 digs and 1 aces, as well as Freshman Kayla Fetcie (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) with 3 kills, 2 digs and 2 aces on the afternoon.

The Lakers look to carry their recent successes into their next match, Monday, Sept. 27th, when the team travels to Genesee Community College for a 6:30 P.M. match start.
