Lakers Sweep Series With Conference Opponent

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - On the day of the Finger Lakes Community College Athletics Showcase, the FLCC Women's Volleyball team competed in a doubleheader match against the Red Barons of Corning Community College. The Lakers pulled away in the first match, winning 3 sets to 1, 25-28, 20-25, 25-14 and 25-18. 

Freshman Emma Sipos (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) was a big contributor with 12 kills, 10 digs and 1 aces while teammate Brandy Morrison (Macedon, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon) continued her consistent play, adding 11 kills, 13 digs and 2 aces for the Lakers. Freshman Jenna Wallace (Baldwinsville, N.Y./ Baldwinsville) was a key playmaker for the Lakers adding 26 assists and 9 digs to the Lakers total.

Other contributors for the Lakers in their first match included Freshman Oona O'Brien (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) with 10 kills, 9 digs and 2 assists as well as teammate Kayla Fetcie (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) who added 4 kills, 1 dig, 1 ace and 3 block solos.

In the second match of the Lakers doubleheader against the Red Barons, the Lakers picked up another victory. The Lakers completed the sweep with the victory, winning 3 sets to 1, 25-16, 25-16, 19-25 and 25-17. 

Sophomore Brandy Morrison led the Lakers in their second match with 15 kills, 5 digs and 2 block assists. Teammate Oona O'Brien helped lead the Lakers to victory adding 8 kills, 5 digs and 1 aces to the total. Teammates Jenna Wallace and Alyssa Johnson (Palymra, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon) worked as a team to set up their teammates. Wallace added 17 assists, 7 digs and 2 aces, while Johnson added 10 assists and 4 digs for the Lakers. 

The win puts the Lakers in a good spot, improving their record to 13-5 and 4-2 in conference play. The Lakers look to build on their performance going into a rematch with the Tribunes of Monroe Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 19th at 6 PM. The Lakers fell to the Tribunes 3 sets to 2 early in the season as they look to even the series against their Regional opponent.
