Lakers Get Big Win on Sophomore Day

Canandaigua, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College Women's Volleyball team concluded their regular season Saturday afternoon winning 3-0. The Laker dominated the visitor, the Vikings of Hudson Valley Community College, winning sets 1-3, 25-3, 25-15 and 25-2. The Lakers also celebrated their senior night as part of their dig pink event and fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. 

Laker's lone Sophomore Brandy Morrison (Macedon, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon) was honored for her contribution to the Finger Lakes Community College Women's Volleyball, leaving a big impact in her short time. Morrison has accumulated over 550 kills and 205 digs in her career, currently placing her 4th all-time in career kills and the highest hitting percentage in FLCC Women's Volleyball history, currently sitting at .327. 

Women's Volleyball coach Andrew Solomon had high praise for Morrison, "Brandy is a star player with a magnetic personality. Her leadership on and off the court has been a key factor in the team's success. I truly appreciate the sacrifice and dedication Brandy has given to the program over the past 3 years. She will leave some very big shoes to fill and will be greatly missed". 

Brandy Morrison led the Lakers in the match, adding 8 kills, 1 dig, 1 assist and 2 aces on the day. Freshman Oona O'Brien (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) added 3 kills, 1 dig, 1 assist and 2 aces for the Lakers. The Lakers also had contributions from Freshman Emma Sipos (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua) with 3 digs and 3 aces and Freshman Caitlynne Marczyk (Hemlock, N.Y./ Livonia) who accumulated 4 digs for the Lakers.

Freshman Hannah DeArmitt (Olean, N.Y./ Olean) was a key cog in the Lakers attack adding 2 kills, 1 dig and 7 aces on the day. DeArmitt's 7 aces are 8th most all-time in a match in FLCC Women's Volleyball history.  

The Lakers look ahead to the Region III, Division III playoffs after a successful regular season, in which the team earned a 15-5 record. The Lakers await their opponent, going into the playoffs as one of the most dangerous squads.
