Lakers Sweep Conference Opponent

CORNING, N.Y. - The Lakers hit the road Tuesday night for a Mid-State Athletic Conference matchup with the Red Barons at Corning Community College. Despite completing a 3-0 sweep, the Red Barons would make things difficult for the Lakers, who came away with 25-22, 25-18, and 25-22 victories in sets 1-3. 

With the win, the Lakers grow their winning streak to ten straight. During that span, the Lakers have played 32 sets and of that have only lost 2.

Sophomore Meghan Johnson (Phelps, N.Y./ Newark) has continued to step up for the Lakers, adding 9 points with 5 kills, 4 aces, and 9 digs against the Red Barons. Freshman Brooke DeGroff (Castile, N.Y./ Letchworth) continued her consistent play, adding in 8 kills, 1 ace, and 11 digs.

Kayla Fetcie (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) has stepped up in the last few matches, coming into the season as one of the Laker's three returning Sophomores. In the match, Fetcie would play 3 sets, tallying 7 kills and 1 dig. Freshman Adriana Botello (Holley, N.Y./ Holley) and Sage Barnedo (Silver Springs, M.D./ Springbrook) would take turns setting up their teammates against Corning. Botello finished with 8 assists to go along with 1 kill, 2 aces, and 9 digs, while Barnedo finished with 11 assists, along with 1 kill, 3 aces, and 6 digs.

Other contributors for the Lakers included Kierstin Comerford (Geneva, N.Y./ Geneva) with 2 aces and 1 dig, Kaidyn VanDelinder (Gananda, N.Y./ Gananda) who contributed 3 kills, and teammates Lily Ayotte (Sodus, N.Y./ Sodus) and Annielys Astacio (Rochester, N.Y./ James Monroe) who each found time on the court with 2 sets played.

The Lakers now hold a record of 12-6 (.667%) and currently sit 2nd in the NJCAA Region III women's volleyball standings. The team will hit the road once again this weekend on Saturday, September 24th for the Jamestown Community College POD. The Lakers will see opponents in Jamestown CC, Erie CC, and Niagara County CC.
