DeGroff, Johnson Guide Lakers to Victory

DRYDEN, N.Y. - The #15 Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team traveled to Tompkins Cortland Community College Wednesday night for a regional matchup with the Panthers. The Lakers, who have enjoyed a hot streak continued their impressive play, defeating Tompkins Cortland Community College, 3-0. The team took sets 1-3, 25-5, 25-10, and 25-4, taking little time to come away with the victory.

The Lakers were led by Freshman Brooke DeGroff (Castile, N.Y./ Letchworth) and Sophomore Meghan Johnson (Phelps, N.Y./ Newark). DeGroff led the Lakers on the attack with 14 kills to go along with 4 aces, 3 digs, and 2 block assists on defense. Johnson aided in the attack, finishing with 10 digs, 1 ace, and 3 digs.

The Lakers were setup by teammate Sage Barnedo (Silver Springs, M.D./ Springbrook) who added 20 assists to her tally, along with 8 aces and 2 digs. The Lakers saw strong defense from Adrianna Botello (Holley, N.Y./ Holley) who finished the night with 3 aces and 10 digs, while teammate Olivia Sheehan (Irondequoit, N.Y./ West Irondequoit) added 4 digs, 2 assists, and 4 aces. Other contributors for the Lakers included Kierstin Comerford (Geneva, N.Y./ Geneva) with 5 aces and 1 dig, Kaidyn VanDelinder (Gananda, N.Y./ Gananda) with 4 kills, 1 dig and 1 block assist, and Kayla Fetcie (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) who concluded the night with 2 kills and 1 block assist on defense.

The Lakers next road trip will take them to Onondaga Community College for the Cara Bryant Invitational at 9 AM. The Lakers will find themselves matched up with Onondaga, Jefferson, and SUNY Broome Community College(s) at the tournament, before returning home on October 11th for a match with the SUNY Broome Hornets at 6 PM.
