Women's Volleyball Finishes Regular Season with a Win

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Lakers were on the road for the SUNY Broome pod, with matches against Corning, Tompkins Cortland, and SUNY Broome Community College(s) on Sunday, October 16th. The Lakers would take their first two victories of the pod via forfeit, before facing off with the SUNY Broome Hornets.

The Hornets stood tall against the Laker's attack, putting up a fight in the first set as the Lakers were only able to come away with a narrow 26-24 victory. The Hornets continued to apply the pressure, only allowing the Lakers to complete 25-18 and 25-22 victories in the second and third sets. Freshman Brooke DeGroff (Castile, N.Y./ Letchworth) led the attack for the Lakers, accumulating 13.5 points with 12 kills to go along with 1 ace on the serve, 3 digs, and 1 block assist on defense.

Freshman Kaidyn VanDelinder (Gananda, N.Y./ Gananda) continued her strong season as a two-way player, adding 9 kills on the attack to go with 1 block and 1 block assist on defense; good for 10.5 total points. Teammate Sage Barnedo (Silver Springs, M.D./ Springbrook) continued to rack up assists, with 21 in the game. Barnedo would add 1 kill and tally 2 aces on the serve, while also picking up 2 digs on defense. Teammates Olivia Sheehan (Irondequoit, N.Y./ West Irondequoit) and Adrianna Botello (Holley, N.Y./ Holley) combined for 14 digs on defense, with Sheehan adding 1 assist in 3 sets played each.

Sophomores Meghan Johnson (Phelps, N.Y./ Newark) and Kayla Fetcie (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) each had 3.5 points on the day. Johnson would tally 2 kills, 1 ace, 10 digs, and 1 block assist, while Fetcie contributed 3 kills, 1 assist, and 1 block assist in the Laker's victory.

The Lakers officially conclude their regular season, going 15-1 in regional play, and 27-8 overall. The team rides a 7-game win streak into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III championship as they await seeding and opponent announcements.
