Lakers Dominate Onondaga in Straight-Set Victory

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team bounced back in a big way after going 2-2 at the NJCAA OWT. In their return to Region III competition, the Lakers traveled to Onondaga Community College to take on the Lazers in Allyn Hall where they would take a commanding 3-0 victory back home.

Setter Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) led the way with 23 assists, while contributing 4 aces and 4 digs, adding 5 points to the Lakers' total. Freshman teammate Clara Roig Lloveras (Girona, Spain/IES Jaume Vicens Vives) was the leader on the attack, with 9 kills on 18 attempts, hitting an impressive .444. Lloveras' strong offensive presence has helped the Lakers se the tone on the offense.

Sophomore Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) anchored the Lakers' defense with 20 digs, while adding 6 service aces to her total, making an impact on both ends of the court. Freshman Lillie Marsh (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added 4 kills on 10 attempts with a .300 hitting percentage, while classmate Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) chipped in 6 kills and 2 digs.

Next up for the team is a pair of matches this Saturday, August 31st for their home opener against Monroe College Bronx and Dutchess Community College.
