Back-to-Back Sweeps Propel Women's Volleyball to a 5-2 Start

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The #11 Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team delivered a statement on the court in their first home matches of the season with back-to-back sweeps. The Lakers, now 5-2 on the season, put their skills on display with another upset victory, defeating #8 Monroe University - Bronx and Dutchess Community College in straight sets.

In their match with Monroe University - Bronx, setter Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) orchestrated the Lakers' offense with precision, recording 30 assists and contributing 5 service aces. The sophomore setter is closely approaching the 1000 career assist mark, currently sitting at 993. Freshman teammate Clara Roig Lloveras (Girona, Spain/IES Jaume Vinces Vives) led the charge on offense, hammering down 15 kills on 21 attempts with an impressive .571 hitting percentage. Roig Lloveras added 3 aces and a block assist to finish with a match-high 18.5 points.

Classmate Jackie Neureuter (Pembroke, N.Y/Pembroke) was equally efficient, adding 8 kills on 14 attempts, hitting .429, and contributing 9.5 points. Freshman Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) also made her presence felt, chipping in 6 kills with a .364 hitting percentage, rounding out a strong offensive performance.

Sophomore Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) anchored the defense with 8 digs, while recording 3 service aces. Teammates Emily Jordan (Portville, N.Y./Portville) and Molly Goulette (Newark, N.Y./Newark) added to the defensive effort with Jordan adding 4 digs and Goulette contributing a dig and 3 aces.

The Lakers continued their winning momentum with a commanding 3-0 win over Dutchess Community College. Sophomore Clara Roig Lloveras led the offense with a stellar performance, recording 13 kills on 17 attempts without an error, hitting an impressive .765. Her dominant play at the net, combined with her defensive contributions of 3 digs and 2 block assists, earned her 16 points for the match.

Setter Payton Stoddard directed the Lakers' offense with 17 assists, while also contributing 4 digs. Teammate Chloe Dailey (Liverpool, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) and Michelina Williams were key players in the serving game, with Dailey adding 3 aces and Williams contributing 2. Freshman Jackie Neureuter was efficient in her attack, hitting .600 with 4 kills on 5 attempts, and Lillie Marsh (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added 2 kills and 2 service aces to round out a balanced effort.

Solid defense from Emily Jordan and Molly Goulette kept the Dutchess Falcons at bay as the Lakers coasted to their fourth-straight victory. The Lakers will enjoy a well-deserved break as they don't return to play until next Saturday, September 7th for a Region III Pod at SUNY Adirondack Community College. The Lakers will play the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves and Hudson Valley Community College Vikings in Queensbury, N.Y.
