Lakers Down Ranked Opponent in Weekend Sweep

HENRIETTA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team delivered another statement weekend, notching two key victories, including a 3-1 triumph over #9 Fulton-Montgomery CC and a commanding 3-0 sweep of SUNY Jefferson. With their win over Fulton-Montgomery, the Lakers secured their third victory this season against a nationally ranked opponent.

Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) powered the offense with 19 kills against Fulton-Montgomery, while Jackie Neureuter (Pembroke, N.Y./Pembroke) chipped in with 10 kills, 5 service aces, and 10 digs. Sophomore Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) orchestrated the attack with 38 assists and added 12 digs to her impressive performance. Defensively, Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) shined, recording 22 digs to keep the high-powered Fulton offense in check, leading to another signature win for the Lakers.

The momentum carried into their second match of the day, where the Lakers breezed past SUNY Jefferson in straight sets. Anna Kurtzhalts once again led the way with 18 kills, while Jackie Neureuter added 10 more kills. Payton Stoddard dished out 27 assists, and Michelina Williams anchored the defense with 17 digs. The Lakers never looked back as they cruised to victory, capping off a dominant day.

With three ranked victories under their belt, including standout wins against several of the top programs in Region III, the Lakers are hitting their stride as they approach the midpoint of the season.
