Lakers Extend Winning Streak to 14 with Sweeps Over Corning and SUNY Broome

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The #4 Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball continued their impressive run at home in a Region III pod as they hosted matches against SUNY Broome and Corning.  

The Lakers showcased an all-around team effort in a 3-0 sweep in their first match of the day against Corning Community College. Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the defense with 9 digs and delivered a stunning 8 service aces. Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) paced the attack, tallying 7 kills with a strong .333 hitting percentage.Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) contributed significantly with 18 assists and 4 service aces, while Jackie Neureuter (Pembroke, N.Y./Pembroke) added 5 kills on a stellar .556 hitting percentage. 

Emma Balduf (Bergen, N.Y./Byron-Bergen) was also effective with 3 kills on just 4 attempts, whileKarynn Price (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Mary Pierce (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) each chipped in with solid offensive and defensive efforts. 

The Lakers continued their dominant form with a 3-0 sweep over SUNY Broome in game two of the pod, extending their winning streak to 14 straight matches and improving to an impressive 15-2 overall. 

Payton Stoddard once again anchored the offense, contributing 20 assists and 4 service aces, while Michelina Williams remained a defensive powerhouse with 20 digs and added 5 aces of her own. The offense was led by Anna Kurtzhalts, who tallied 7 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, and Emma Balduf, who added 5 kills and 2 aces. 

Karynn Price delivered a nearly flawless performance, posting 5 kills on 6 attempts for a .833 hitting percentage, while Lillie Marsh (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added 5 kills of her own on .375 hitting. Jackie Neureuter and Chloe Dailey (Liverpool, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) also contributed on both sides of the ball, combining for 8 kills. 

The team is back home on Tuesday, October 1st for a conference matchup with SUNY Jefferson at 6 PM. The Lakers will also be celebrating their 2023 Region III title with a ring ceremony before the start of the match.
