CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team is now 22-2 and has won 21 straight matches following 3-0 sweeps over Genesee, Onondaga, and Monroe. Earlier in the week, the Lakers matched up with Genesee for their final conference matchup of the year, as the Lakers moved to 5-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference standings.
In their matchup against Genesee, Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) led the offensive charge with 14 kills and a .267 hitting percentage. At the same time, Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) set up the attack with 35 assists and added 2 service aces. Kayce Hennekey (Irondequoit, N.Y./West Irondequoit) contributed 11 kills, and Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) anchored the defense with 13 digs.
Against Onondaga, the Lakers were once again led by Kurtzhalts, who recorded 9 kills on .533 hitting. Emma Balduf (Bergen, N.Y./Byron-Bergen) added 3 kills and a service ace, while Payton Stoddard tallied 26 assists and 5 aces. Michelina Williams was solid on defense with 17 digs.
In their final match of the week against Monroe, Emma Balduf shone with 8 kills on .316 hitting, supported by Mary Pierce (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), who chipped in with 5 kills. Michelina Williams delivered a strong all-around performance with 14 digs and 4 aces. Stoddard added 29 assists and 3 aces to help seal the victory.
With the three sweeps, the Lakers are now poised for a strong postseason run, having swept 14 straight opponents. The Lakers will look to build on this momentum as they head into their final pair of matches in the regular season next Saturday, October 19th at Monroe Community College.
