Logging Sports All Place in Top 3 at SUNY Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.- The Finger Lakes Community College Logging Sports Team competed in the 2nd Winter Lumberjack Contest on Saturday at SUNY Morrisville. Along with FLCC the participating schools were: Cobleskill, SUNY ESF and Morrisville.

The Jack and Jill Division took 3rd place with a total of 14 points. This team consisted of: Morgan Opeil, Joe Schrader, Emily Crooks, William Chrysler, Melinda Waag and Zach Cragle. The Jack and Jill Team placed 1st in Team Bow Saw and had strong showings in Doubles Cross Cut to Death (Crooks and Cragle) and Team Packboard.

The Women’s Division tied for 1st place with SUNY ESF with 21 points. A sudden death axe throw was the tie breaker. The closest person to the bullseye won. Emily Dobbs threw and got the closest to the bullseye giving our FLCC women’s team the win.  This team consisted of : Emily Dobbs, Samantha Bower, Madeline Lippert, Michaela Johnstone, Sarah Middlebrook and Hannah Schaubert. The Women placed first in Team Bowsaw, Team Pulp Toss, Doubles Cross Cut to Death (Lippert and Middlebrook) and Doubles Horizontal Chop (Dobbs and Bower). 

The Men’s Division took 2nd place with a total of 31 points. This team consisted of: Justin Renk, Kevin Roelle, Garrett Kelledy, Delain Geist, John Bateman and Calum Ruxton. The men’s team took 1st place in Team Packboard and Team Cross Cut and had strong showings in Team Singles Relay, Team Pulp Toss and Doubles Quarter Split (Geist and Ruxton).

The Lakers next competition will be Saturday March 28th when they travel to Alfred State for the Annual Pioneer Games. Competition is set to start at 8:30am.
