Logging Sports: Explained

Currently, Finger Lakes Community College boasts three different Logging Sports teams. The Lakers have a men's team, a women's team, and a jack-and-jill team. Each team features six members. The men's and women's team are comprised of members of each respective sex, while the jack-and-jill team is composed of three men and three women. Each team member must compete in all team events, one singles event, one doubles event, and one triples event.

The Lakers travel throughout the Northeast competing against the likes of prestigious four-year institutions. Past competitors have include Dartmouth College, the University of Connecticut, and several other prominent colleges. In the fall, the Lakers compete in a Woodsmen event, which generally consists of four team [event where more than three members compete] events, one singles [event where only one team member competes] event, and one doubles [event where two team members compete] event. In the spring, the Lakers compete in a two-day event, which generally is comprised of five team events, one singles event, one doubles event, one triples [event where three team members competes] event, and canoeing.

Events are modeled to commemorate the 'logging years of yesterday'. Events are determined by the host school's choice. Here are some of the events that the team competes in within the season, accompanied by video examples and distinguished by event category.

SINGLES: Pole Climb | Single Buck | Axe Throw | Bow Saw | Pulp Throw | Canoeing | Chainsaw | Birling | Chain Throw | Firewood Split | Fly Casting
