Women's Team Places First In 8TH Annual FLCC Logging Sports Competition

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.- The Finger Lakes Community College Logging Sports Team hosted the 8th Annual FLCC Fall Meet on Saturday. Along with FLCC the participating schools were: Alfred State, Cobleskill, SUNY ESF, Morrisville, Paul Smith's, Ranger School and The University of Vermont.

 

The Women's Division took 1st place out of 5 teams with a total of 1264.9 points. This team comprised of 2 returning athletes: Emily Dobbs and Samantha Bower along with newcomers Madeline Lippert, Melinda Waag, Sarah Middlebrook and Hannah Schaubert. The Women placed first in Team Cross Cut, Team Bow Saw, Team Pack Board, Doubles Underhand Chop (Emily Dobbs and Samantha Bower), Singles Axe Throw (Emily Dobbs), and Singles Pole Climb (Samantha Bower).

 

The Men's Division took 4th place out of 11 teams with a total of 968.2 points. This team is comprised of newcomers Benjamin Nixon, John Bateman, Justin Renk, Kevin Roelle, Nate Stuckey and Calum Ruxton. The men's team had strong showings in Team Packboard, Doubles Cross Cut to Hell (Justin Renk and Benjamin Nixon) and Singles Chain Saw (Benjamin Nixon).

 

The Jack and Jill Division took 4th place out of 6 teams with a total of 991.5 points. This team comprised of 2 returning athletes: Zach Cragle and Morgan Opeil and newcomers: Emily Crooks, Kai Blokhuis, Hunter Chrysler and Garrett Kelledy. The Jack and Jill Team placed 1st in Singles Birling (Morgan Opeil) and had strong showings in Team Log Roll, Team Cross Cut and Singles Single Buck (Garrett Kelledy).

 

Head Coach Ryan Staychock said "I am very proud of the results of our competition with only having 4 returning athletes on the team. To compete against almost all 4 year schools and to perform well is amazing but to come out and win a Division really speaks to our athletes and coaching staff."

 

The Lakers will compete on Saturday October 19th at the 15th Annual East Coast Lumberjack Round-Up at SUNY ESF. The start time is 8:30am.
