Logging Sports Opens Season at Paul Smiths College

PAUL SMITHS, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's and women's logging sports teams opened up their regular season at Paul Smiths College. The Lakers, celebrating their 50th anniversary as a program, will don throwback jerseys this season that honor the original jerseys and individuals who helped bring the program to prominence as the only 2-year competitor.

The Lakers' talents were on full display amongst a playing field that included SUNY ESF, SUNY Cobleskill, UConn, University of Vermont, Alfred State, SUNY Morrisville, and the Ranger School. The FLCC women's team delivered an outstanding performance, securing a 2nd place finish, narrowly trailing the 1st-place ESF team by a mere 30 points out of 1400 possible points. Sophomore Rachel Joseph was a standout, clinching 1st in Single BUck and dominating the Horizontal Chop alongside teammate Mackenzie Ferris. Sophomore Nita Schumacher triumphed with a 1st place victory in the Super Swede, while the team as a whole would take home 1st place in the Pulp Toss.

In the open division, the Lakers made their mark with a 3rd-place finish. Freshman Jason Taylor conquered the Pole Climb, earning 1st place while earning another top finish in the Cross Cut to Hell with doubles partner Erika Newcombe

The Lakers will hit the road next week for Tully, N.Y. to compete in their next meet at SUNY ESF.
