Four Lakers Recognized by the NJCAA for Academic Achievement

Four student-athletes from Finger Lakes Community College have been recognized by the NJCAA for their academic success throughout the 2013-14 school year.

Kelly Broderick and Alexis Maiorano from the Women's Basketball team and Cassidie Smith from the Women's Track and Field team earned the Superior Academic Achievement Award from the NJCAA. Softball's Rachel Mertens was awarded the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award.

This is the second consecutive year that Broderick and Maiorano have been recognized by the NJCAA for their academic achievements. Broderick earned Superior Academic Achievement last year while Maiorano was recognized with the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence.

"Our mission is to focus on the advancement of the individual and help each student-athlete to become a life long learner," stated Athletic Director Bob Lowden. "We take the student-athlete term seriously at Finger Lakes and what these student-athletes have done on the field and in the classroom is a testiment to themselves, their teachers, their coaches, and the Finger Lakes community as a whole. I commend these four on being recognized by the NJCAA as Academic Student-Athlete Award winners."
